Static vs. Dynamic QR Codes: Why Static Never Expires
Learn how commercial QR code generators use deceptive dynamic redirects to lock your traffic behind recurring monthly paywalls, and why static codes offer permanent reliability.
When most people create a QR code online, they assume the black and white pattern stores their website link directly. In reality, modern commercial QR generator services often create "dynamic QR codes".
A dynamic QR code does not contain your website URL. Instead, it encodes a link to the generator company's redirect server (for example, "https://qr-tracker-service.com/r/8492"). When a user scans the code, their phone connects to that company's server, which then forwards them to your actual website.
Why do companies do this? The business model is simple: after 14 days, the free trial ends. The server stops forwarding traffic to your site and displays a billing page demanding $15 to $35 every month. If you already printed 10,000 brochures or product boxes, you are forced to pay or throw away your inventory.
In contrast, a static QR code created on HD QR Code encodes your destination URL directly into the matrix itself. Your website address is written into the black and white squares according to ISO/IEC 18004 standards.
Because there is no intermediate server, a static QR code can never be turned off, blocked, or expired. As long as your website remains live, the QR code will function indefinitely.
